The Role:
As the Environment and Sustainability Manager, you will play the key role as the subject matter expert for any environmental and sustainability aspects of the organisation. You'll ensure that the organisation is operating in accordance with environmental requirements and agreed targets, as a part of our evolving Environmental Social Governance (ESG) framework. Your role will involve examining the company activities to determine where improvements can be made and ensuring compliance with environmental legislation across the organisation.
You will also create, implement and monitor environmental strategies to promote sustainability. Your wide remit means you'll review the whole operation, carrying out environmental audits and assessments, identifying and resolving environmental problems and ensuring necessary changes are implemented.
Key Responsibilities:
- Be the first point of contact for Environmental and Sustainability enquiries.
- Implement and maintain ESG framework, policies and practices.
- Develop, implement and maintain ISO14001 standard across the organisation. Assume the role of ISO14001 internal auditor.
- Ensure compliance with environmental and sustainability requirements.
- Assess, analyse and collate environmental performance data and reporting information to internal staff, clients and regulatory bodies.
- Carry out impact assessments to identify, assess and reduce an organisation's environmental risks and financial costs.
- Set organisational environmental and sustainability targets and develop plans to meet those targets and oversee their delivery as part of the organisation's ESG framework.
- Support Head of Facilities in developing and managing environmental strategy budgets. Negotiate environmental service agreements and manage associated costs and revenues.
- Keep up to date with relevant changes in environmental and sustainability requirements and initiatives, including international legislation and update key stakeholders on any industry changes when applicable.
- Manage relationships with the senior management team and internal colleagues.
- Participate in environmental education and research and train staff at all levels on environmental issues and responsibilities (i.e. waste and resources, decarbonisation, energy management).
- Support cross functional meetings and any other external meetings as part of the organisation external projects as required by the Head of Facilities, including chairing Sustainability Committee Meetings.
- Liaise with external Environment and Sustainability related organisations, including any regulatory bodies, as necessary.
Required Education and Industry Experience:
* ISO 14001 Certification (Internal Auditor)
*Be educated to Degree Level or NVQ Equivalent in an environment-related subject
* Experience of developing and implementing ISO 14001 standard.
* Experience of initiating and managing complex projects as well as produce and deliver presentations to Board Members.
Required Technical Skills and attributes:
*Working knowledge of Health and Safety relevant requirements with the ability to adapt to evolving health and safety requirements.
*The capability to integrate health and safety issues with the environmental and sustainability matters.
*Highly numerate and able to transact data accurately
Establish effective networks, both internally and externally.
Have a high awareness of the quality requirements of the business and be able to act accordingly
Professional, guided by industry code of conduct with the ability to translate legislation and specific code of practices for internal key stakeholders and external high-profile customers
