Main purpose of the role:
Carry out electronics design and development activities relating to power and control electronics for automotive racing as well as but not exclusively series production applications.
Key responsibilities:
Electronics Design & Development
• Design of low voltage analog and digital electronics.
• Specification and Requirement capture according to process and industry design standards.
• Complete Schematic capture, PCB design.
• Support device selection relating to Microcontrollers and FPGAs
• Execute circuit simulation process.
• Participate in design reviews of electronics/software projects.
• Preparation and release of component specifications, Bill of Materials and drawings.
• Test specification capture.
• Carry out testing and verification of power electronics devices and assemblies.
• Carry out investigation and resolution of development, launch and ongoing quality issues involving electronic assemblies.
• Implement engineering change requests and maintain detailed design records.
• Preparation and review of electronic design documentation.
• Any other tasks that are reasonably assigned to you by your line manager, including development activities, which are within your capability and grade.
Required Education and Industry Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Electrical or Electronic Engineering.
- Strong first principles approach.
- User of schematic capture and PCB design tools.
- Circuit simulation.
- Analog and Digital design skills.
- Knowledge of standard busses such as SPI, UART and interfacing to external components like Flash memory and ADCs.
- Failure mode avoidance experience with knowledge of associated processes such as DFMEA and FTA.
- Design of low voltage analog and digital electronics for automotive ECUs.
- Experience implementing automotive communication busses such as CAN and Flexray.
Desirable Education and Industry Experience:
- Relevant Master’s degree.
- Experience delivering tolerance and lifetime calculations.
- Altium Designer.
- LTSPICE.
- PSIM.
- Knowledge of automotive standards.
- Experience developing work products in support of ISO26262 safety engineering process.
- Experience implementing automotive safety-capable microcontrollers.
- Experience within the motorsport industry.
- Experience implementing FPGAs and their configuration using VHDL or Verilog.
- Knowledge of best practice approaches for design in accordance with global EMC standards.
- Experience developing and executing electronics validation plans.
