Principal Supplier Quality Assurance Engineer

Main purpose of the role:
To ensure that supplier quality requirements are met, documented and reported accurately.
To ensure support to all the relevant projects including periodic updates of internal and external quality documentation to deliver the project milestones within the required deadlines.
To develop the existing supply chain to satisfy different industries’ requirements.
This role will also need to support the development of the existing BMS to ensure compliance to ISO 9001 and next standards (IATF 16949 and ISO 14001).
Reporting directly to the Head of Quality, but also accountable to project and operational management.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead the supplier approval process by assessing Quality Management System, manufacturing capability, and Health, Safety & Environmental risks.
- Carry supplier validation audits and work with suppliers to ensure satisfactory completion of all advanced product quality planning (APQP) deliverables:
- Requirements management
- FMEA
- Control plans
- 8-step problem solving (8D / PPS)
- PPAP
- Work with internal stakeholders to define special characteristics, process parameters and critical to quality criteria to ensure supplied components meet requirements.
- Support new product manufacturing launches to ensure that supplier quality meets the required standards.
- Facilitate root cause analysis and corrective actions of supplier quality issues, including conducting supplier visits where required.
- Collate and evaluate supplier quality data to identify process improvement opportunities / value enhancement opportunities.
- Monitor and report on supplier product quality performance KPIs, conduct regular reviews with suppliers to feedback and create / monitor action plans where required.
- Assist with first off sample approvals, PPAP batch approvals, inspections where required.
- Support development of supplier quality assurance processes.
- Work with project management to determine supplier quality assurance input for upcoming projects.
- Act on opportunities for improving reliability and quality.
- Identify ways of doing things better / more efficiently / cheaper while maintaining product reliability and quality.
Required Education and Industry Experience:
- Degree in engineering discipline.
- Working knowledge of measurement systems / metrology
- Working knowledge of ISO-45001 / ISO-14001
- Supplier quality assurance experience in electronics and/or mechanical components
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt / demonstrable experience equivalent to
- Demonstrable experience of managing projects with suppliers through use of APQP
- Demonstrable experience in facilitating FMEA reviews and managing action plans
- Demonstrable experience of using problem solving techniques (5Y, 8D, PPS)
- Experienced user of Microsoft office
Desirable Education and Industry Experience:
- Lead auditor ISO-9001 / IATF-16949 / AS-9100
- Lean Six Sigma Black Belt
